I am a huge fan of relaxing in a hot bath after a long day. Someday soon I hope to be writing a blog post about my bathroom remodel. A remodel that will include a giant soaking Jacuzzi tub. But for now I just use my regular bathtub and it’s good enough for me. I love adding essential oils and salts to my bath, and these bombs have both of those things in them, plus coconut oil to soften the skin. The fizzing is the best part, it’s fun to watch and very satisfying for some reason. Check it out:
Bath bombs from Lush or any other bath store are expensive. DIYing them is much cheaper, and really not very hard. Here’s my DIY bath bomb recipe.
DIY Calming Bath Bombs
You Will Need:
medium mixing bowl
small jar or bowl
½ cup measuring cup
1 cup baking soda
½ cup citric acid
½ cup corn starch
½ cup epsom salts*
1 tsp himalayan salt (optional)
*note* I bought epsom salts that were already scented. Next time I won’t do that, I want to be in control of how much scent they have.
1 tsp water
30-40 drops lavender essential oil
4 tsp coconut oil, melted
Soap or candy making coloring (optional)
Whisk together dry ingredients
Melt coconut oil, add water, essential oil and any desired colorant.
Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mixture should hold together but still be very dry. Resist the urge to add more water. If needed, add more water 1 drop at a time.
**adding too much water to the mixture will cause it to fizz – you don’t want it to do that yet!
Press mixture into mold, let rest for a few minutes, then very carefully remove from mold.
Let bath bombs dry on a clean, dry plate for 30 minutes or more.
Store in an airtight container.
The number of bath bombs will depend on the type of mold you use! I made 8 of this size using a 1/4 cup mold.
Add one bath bomb to a hot bath. Relax and enjoy!
